Festivals of Music Performance
Congratulations to the PAHS Music Department on the performances at the "Festivals of Music" adjudication in New York City on April 25th.  The Concert Band received a rating of "Good" and a 2nd place while the Show Choir received a rating of "Excellent" and a 1st place.  The Concert Choir earned a "Superior" rating and a 1st place in the class A division and the Chamber Singers were awarded a "Superior" rating and the 1st place in the AA division.  Additionally, the Chamber Singers won the "Festivals of Music - Overall High School Mixed Choir Award" for being the highest scoring choir at the festival.


Prom Court 2008
The Prom Court for 2008 are - Brandon Homell, Matthew Kline, Nick Nichols, Ricky Fry, and Sean Emerson.  The Prom Court for the ladies are - Olivia Riley, Kelsey Mathers, Brianna Bizzaro, Lindsay Fox, and Lauren Delacour. The Prom Dance will be held on May 17. Pictures will be held at 6:00 pm. Dinner is being served at 7:00 pm.  Dance will be from 7:00 to 11:00 pm.


Track Results
The boys defeated both Johnsonburg and Kane on April 29th to improve their record to 7-0.  The girls split, beating Johnsonburg and losing to Kane.  The girls are now 5-2


Jazz Band Concert

 The Port Allegany Music Department presented Jazz and Java on Friday, April 11th.  Click here for a sampling of the music!


All-State Chorus
Congratulations to those students representing PAHS at the PMEA All-State Chorus Festival this year.  RayPaul Gascon earned a 12th chair in Bass II.  Danae Binder placed 9th in Alto II, and Derek Brookens was awarded a 2nd chair in Tenor II.


All-State  Band
Congratulations to James Young for placing first chair first horn at the PMEA All-State Wind Ensemble this year.  In addition to this James tied for the highest horn score overall.



Queen Candidate Announced
Kelly Mulcahey was chosen by the Junior Class to be Port Allegany High School's representative at the McKean County Fair Queen Competition this year.  Congratulations and good luck Kelly!
 


All-East Choir
Derek Brookens, Todd Mealy, and Brianna Bizzaro represented Port Allegany High School at the ACDA All-East Honors Choir.  The event was held in Hartford Connecticut this year from Feb. 13 through Feb. 16.


Center Stage
This year the Music Department presented Center Stage on February 2nd and February 4th.  The Jazz Band, the Chamber Singers, and the Elementary Ensemble were featured during Center Stage.   Their was also an art show in the lobby to show off  students art pieces.  


Band Concert
The annual Winter Band Concert was held on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007.  Students from 5th-12th got the audience in the holiday spirit with music ranging from Westridge Overture to Twas the Night Before Christmas narrated by Mr. Kelly Healy.  Visit the band page for photos and audio clips from the performance.


Chorus Concert
The annual Wintersongs chorus concert was held on Friday Dec 7th and Saturday Dec 8th. The concert was a great success again this year with standing room only each night.  Pictures and audio files from the concert can be found on the Chorus Page!

Opportunities
The Guidance department would like to announce two opportunities for students.  The first is The Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence.  An informational DVD is available from Mr. Eskeson in the Guidance Office or you can get information from the website www.pgse.org.   The second opportunity is the McKelvey Foundation Bronze Scholarship.  Information on this scholarship can be found at www.mckelveyfoundation.org.


PASD Meets AYP
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has made available information regarding the district's academic performance.  We're pleased to announce that the Port Allegany School District has met AYP levels set by the Department of Education for the year 2005-06.  Information for all schools in PA can be viewed at PDE's web site www.paayp.com.  Port Allegany's information can be found by following this link.

For Your Information

  • The Port Allegany School District welcomes community members who wish to walk in the high school hallways for exercise.  Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. - 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. have been set aside for walking by community members.  If community members desire to walk on the track, they are asked to use the gates by the high school gymnasium.

  • The district has implemented a Senior Activity Pass for any resident of the school district who is 65 years of age or older.  Eligible residents should register in the Superintendent's Office to receive their activity pass.  The pass is good for all extra-curricular activities.

  • In the event of inclement weather or any other event that causes a delay or closing of school, we ask that you listen to the local radio stations where notification will be made.  District personnel will contact the following radio stations  to announce delays or closings:  WHKS - 94.9, WPIG -  95.7,  WBRR - 100.1, WAS - 90.1, WQRM -  106.3, WILMA - 89.1, and WFRM - 96.7.  District personnel asks you cooperation in not calling the schools as available staff will be involved in other responsibilities related to the delay or closing.

  • "Homework Help on PIN" channel 28, is a weekly call-in program for students and parents.  This interactive program makes state certified math and science teachers available for students and parents who need help with homework.  The program is televised on Sundays from 5 -7 PM throughout the school year.
