Making the Headlines

District Chorus

Congratulations to Sarah Gordon (1st chair), Zach Sigafoes (1st chair), Megan Bishel (2nd chair), Adam Johnson (3rd chair), and Wesley Caulkins (6th chair). The students participated in PMEA district chorus at Warren High School.


District Band

Congratulations to the following students for their placement at PMEA District 2 Band: Wesley Caulkins-first chair trombone, Derek Johnson-second chair, second alto saxophone, Mary Rosenswie-second chair bass clarinet , and Jacob Stehle-sixth chair French horn. Mary, Wesley, and Jacob will advance to Region II band in February. Congratulations to all!


Snowball
The peer helpers are holding the snowball dance on February 4th, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets are being sold all week in the cafeteria. They are $6 for singles, $10 for couples. Gift card raffles will take place at the dance. They are $25 dollar gift cards to Fox's, Sheetz, and American Eagle. Each time you put your name in it is 1 dollar. Snowball court is Justine Kinney, Jillian Edgreen, Kiersten Kio, Sophia Riley, and Rhiannon Riley. For the guys, Tyler Burr, Trevor Neal, Charlie Buchanan, Elliot Binder, and Jake Baxter.


Souper Supper
The Port Allegany Music Boosters will sponsor a Souper Supper in the high school cafeteria Wednesday, February 15th from 5:00-6:30 pm. The cost is $5.00 per person and includes soup, crackers/bread, dessert, and a beverage. Presale tickets are available from music students or purchase them at the door.


Bodamer, Miller Make All-State Team!

Tyce Miller and Matt Bodamer were both selected to this year's Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class A All-State Team.  Bodamer finished the season fourth on the all-time Pennsylvania single season passing yardage list with 3776 yards.  He's also third on the all-time single season touchdown list with 49.  Tyce Miller finished the season with 74 receptions for 1,248 yards which puts him at 3rd in the state this year for both receptions and yardage. Nick Budd made second team as an offensive lineman.


Boys Basketball

The boys basketball team defeated
Cameron County 44-23.  Beau Shively had 13 points,  7 steals, Rickie Bova had 10 points, 9 steals, and Charlie Buchannon had 7 steals. Matt Bodamer also added eight points and six steals. The Gators host Oswayo Valley on Friday, January 20th.


Wrestling

In Gator wrestling Port beat Johnsonburg 72-11 with the help of four straight pins from 160-195.  Collecting the pins were Alex Gular, Bryce Stahlman, Zac Tarr, and Trent Neal. The Gators collected 48 points on 8 wins by forfeit. Port Gators travel to Clearfield Duals on Saturday. 


Girls Basketball

The girls basketball team lost to Smethport 49-37.  Rachel Taylor had 17 marks (7-5, 3-1).   Port Allegany's junior varsity team won. The team will travel to Cameron County on Monday, January 16th.


Big 30 Football
Congratulations to the following football players for being named to the 2011 Olean Time Herald Big 30 All Star-Team. Offensive; Tyce Miller, Charlie Buchanan, and Matt Bodamer. Defensive: Nick Budd. Also, at the Big 30 Dinner, Matt Bodamer was selected as Big 30 player of the year. Congratulations guys!


Blood Drive

On Wednesday, October 26th a blood drive was held in the auxiliary gym.  51 units of blood were donated!  Every 2 seconds someone in the United States is in need of blood. One donation can save up to 3 lives. Do your part and donate!

PAHS Tops in SAT Scores

A recent Bradford Era article reported that Port Allegany High School out-scored all other schools in Cameron, Elk, Potter, and McKean counties in critical reading and math on the SAT this past year.  The PAHS class of 2010 scored on average 499 in critical reading and 505 in mathematics.  Way to go PAHS!!!

Notes from the Library

Accelerator Reader available at home! The RenLearn Accelerated Reader program has a Home Connect website. Renaissance Home Connect improves the school-to-home connection by allowing parents and students to log in to a Web site and view the student's reading practice and progress towards goals.

Access to online results promotes discussion between parents and students, which motivates students and can make reading practice even more effective. In addition, parents automatic updates in English or Spanish on their student's reading progress.

Power School Parent Portal
The Port Allegany School District would like parents to be aware of a new tool for tracking their child's progress.  The Power School Parent Portal is your gateway to a wealth of information about your child's grades/attendance and progress in all of their classes at school.  To log in go to https://pasd.powerschool.com/public  Students in grades 7 - 12 will no longer receive Progress Reports from their teachers.  Parents who do not have access to Power School Parent Portal and would like copies of their child's Progress Reports should contact Mrs. Jill Stuckey at 642-2544 ext. 200.  If parents need access information, please contact the high school office.

The Port Allegany School District has released its Annual Public Notice. For the full text version in pdf format click here. 



For Your Information

  • The Port Allegany School District welcomes community members who wish to walk in the high school hallways for exercise.  Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. - 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. have been set aside for walking by community members.  If community members desire to walk on the track, they are asked to use the gates by the high school gymnasium.

  • The district has implemented a Senior Activity Pass for any resident of the school district who is 65 years of age or older.  Eligible residents should register in the Superintendent's Office to receive their activity pass.  The pass is good for all extra-curricular activities.

  • In the event of inclement weather or any other event that causes a delay or closing of school, we ask that you listen to the local radio stations where notification will be made.  District personnel will contact the following radio stations  to announce delays or closings:  WHKS - 94.9, WPIG -  95.7,  WBRR - 100.1, WQRM -  106.3, WPSU - 90.1, WFRM - 600 AM, WKBW - Channel 7, WVIB - Channel 4, WGRZTV - Channel 2, WTAJ - Channel 10, and gerrimiller.com.  District personnel asks you cooperation in not calling the schools as available staff will be involved in other responsibilities related to the delay or closing.

  • "Homework Help on PIN" channel 28, is a weekly call-in program for students and parents.  This interactive program makes state certified math and science teachers available for students and parents who need help with homework.  The program is televised on Sundays from 5 -7 PM throughout the school year.
