Senior Interview & College Preparation
The process
of graduating can be an intimidating and scary process. Most seniors
don’t realize that if you just slow down and take it one step at a time
then this seemingly impossible task becomes easier to deal with.
The first
step in the process of the senior interview can easily put everything into
perspective for you. The guidance counselors will help seniors with this
process by first setting up this interview to get a quick overview of the
student’s particular situation. The guidance office will notify the
senior and make an appointment in the office of the preferred guidance
counselor. The entire interview lasts about a class period. During this
time the selected guidance counselor will quickly discuss the senior’s
current high school credit totals and class program he/she is enlisted
in. The guidance counselor will touch base on the classes needed to
graduate, the credits needed as well. Lastly the senior and counselor
double check the second semester schedule and make changes where needed.
The next
checkpoint of this interview is the topic of possible colleges or
technical schools that the senior is interested in and plan on applying
to. Next the counselor will share some useful methods with the student
that will help with the search of possible colleges. The main website
used to find a college using this method is www.collegeboard.com. During
this time the senior and counselor talk about scholarships, fill out a
couple of papers, and look over booklets. These booklets offer
scholarships that the senior may qualify for and also assist with
financial aid.
Finally,
information is given regarding the SATs and ACTs and the senior is given a
very important paper with sign up dates and deadlines for future tests,
after answering any much needed questions. Any needed appointment can be
made for help with the college application process, SAT sign up process,
or financial aid assistance.
The
schedule of the senior interviews lasts the entire duration of September.
Something as simple as these interviews can go a long way preparing
seniors for college. |
